*Some History behind The Hotel*
Hotel Saint Vincent's story begins in 1813 in Ireland with the birth of Margaret Haughery, née Gaffney. Margaret (Orphan) eventually made her way to New Orleans in 1835. Here she became known locally as “Our Margaret” for her endless community giving and philanthropy. Margaret, with money from her bakery which was successful ,founded The Saint Vincent’s Infant Asylum , a refuge for many both old & young in 1861. In 1882 she past away and a statue of her erected in 1884 making it the second public monument of a woman in USA. Margaret's Place is a park in the Lower Garden District near the Hotel leaving a reminder of the humanitarian who devoted her life in supporting the people and the city of NOLA Hotel Saint Vincent honors the memories.
