This is a vintage Elgin American 400 cigarette case combo, likely from the 1940s, with built in lighter. It has been kept in it's original box with user manual and cleaning brush, and appears to be very lightly used.

Elgin American, founded in 1890 as the Illinois Watchcase Company, was widely known in the early 20th century for their luxurious accessories. They produced ladies accessories and vanities as well as cigarette cases and lighters.

This case has Elgin American's version of the Ronson Adonis lighter built into the top. The lever is set into a smooth cutout. Press down and the snuffer cap will lift with a shower of sparks, igniting the wick. The lighter mechanism can be removed for servicing or replacing the flint, and fuel is added below.

It is in good working order. Push the button on the side of the case and the spring loaded door will open with a smooth action, presenting your cigarettes to you or anyone you may be offering one too. It can be used to hold cigarettes
