Stunning Signed Sterling Silver Choker with 16 Handmade Folkloric Aztec Mayan Symbolism Medallions, some of animals, interspersed with ancient coin replications. This choker necklace is 15 1/2” long, has a simple and safe notch clasp, blackened reliefs for the symbol and animal/shaman portraits, each pivotal piece being 1 1/4” wide for the curved rectangles and 5/8” diameter for the round coins with a deity in the middle. Total weight is 3 ounces. Extremely unused near mint condition. This piece is about 82 years old and an early Jalil Majul Ballesteros work of art, hallmarked “TALLERES DE LOS BALLESTEROS TAXCO GRO
HECHO EN MEXICO STERLING 925” and model/inventory number “223.” Talleres de Los Ballesteros started in 1937 in the state of Guerrero and the “TAXCO GRO” hallmark is pre-1942. This firm is considered among Mexico’s finest Silver Jewelers. This is beautiful, elegant, fun, and rare. Each medallion can shimmy and shimmer on the single socket attaching one medallion to the next.
