A good-natured tramp with a twinkle in his eye! Hand-carved by Carl Olof Trygg (1910 - 1993). Born in Dalarna, Sweden, Trygg is recognized as a masterful 20th century wood-carver, and a leading figure in Scandinavian flat-plane wood carving.
This charismatic hobo is whimsical in its fine details, such as the crinkling at the eyes, facial features, the folds and draping of his coat and shirt. The shirt is painted in vivid yellow and red stripes. Excellent condition overall.
Signed, and dated 1959. The word “Sweden” also appears on the bottom of the base. Stands 6 inches tall (from the bottom of the base to the top of the cap).
