This rustic vase featuring a sunflower design was fired in a raku kiln, giving it a smoky quality that is perfect for a decor that trends toward rustic and primitive. Raku is a wonderful firing method for purely decorative pottery. It is not designed to hold water, so if you wish to place flowers in this vase, they should either be dried/silk flowers or placed inside a glass vase that you set inside this vessel.
I made this vase on my pottery wheel out of white stoneware clay, carved in the design of buzzing bumblebees and sunflowers while the clay was wet.
This wonderful piece of art measures 8 high x 4 across at the shoulder.
