This beautiful chrysoprase cabochon was shaped by my partner and wire wrapped by me in Argentium silver. Argentium is more pure in silver content, and more tarnish resistant than Sterling. Your new wrap will sparkle for a very long time without needing a polish!
Chrysoprase is a green chalcedony, a member of the quartz group with a hardness of 7, making this a durable piece for those of us who are active, or just kinda clumsy (or both!) :] It's crystal system is hexagonal and it is one of the rarest and most valuable forms of chalcedony. It's green color comes from nickel. It was often used as a gemstone in ancient Greece, as far back as 400 B.C.E. Current important deposits of chrysoprase are found in Australia, Brazil, Madagascar, South Africa and Russia; this specimen came from Australia.
