This 1883 Liberty Nickel, graded AU50 by ANACS, is a well-preserved example of the infamous “No Cents” variety. Lacking the word “Cents” beneath the large “V,” this design allowed criminals to gold plate the coin and pass it off as a 5 gold piece, earning it the nickname “Racketeer Nickel.” The U.S. Mint quickly corrected the design by adding “Cents” later that year.
This coin retains sharp details with natural toning, housed in a secure ANACS plastic holder with a complete “Liberty” on the obverse. The coin pictured is the exact one you will receive.
