1882 o/s Morgan Dollar error coin The 1882-O/S One dollar is part of a series of Morgan silver dollar coins struck from 1878-1921. The specific variety is Weak. Struck in New Orleans and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper from a mintage of 6,090,000 struck.
The 1882-O/S Morgan dollar is one of several popular repunched mintmark varieties in the series, in this case an O mintmark was punched over an erroneous S. On this piece the mintmarks exhibit more weakly than on the counterpart O/S Strong. This tough variety is scarce in all grades and especially so in the Gem level, where it becomes quite rare. So, too, are PLs and DMPLs for this piece.
Obverse: Portrait of Liberty centered. On the left are found 7 stars with the words E*PLURIBUS*UNUM followed by 6 stars on the right. The date is positioned at the bottom.
Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered holding a bunch of arrows and branch surrounded by and olive leaves.
