Beautiful finish, very old. 19.5 x 12 . These hand carved mirrors are modeled on a traditional Balinese Maru high in the Himalayas lies the sacred Mt. Shivaling, an enormous mountain that represents Shiva, who according to Hindu tradition is the creator and destroyer of all things. Mount Meru lies next to Mount Shiva and is said to protect Shiva. For hundreds of years on the Hindu island of Bali, the Balinese have built multi-tierd temples called Miru to reset represent the sacred mountain. These thatch roofed pavilions are dedicated to a god or goddess and always built with an odd number of tiers, the highest numbering 11 and signifying greatest respect. The goddess of rice, Dewi Sri for example has 11-tiered mirrors dedicated to her. Made by World Market.
