Overview: Up for sales is a two-volume set of The Soldier in Our Civil War, A Pictorial History of the Conflict, 1861-1865 It is hard to describe these two exceptionally large books without resorting to superlatives. For one thing, they are huge, 17x11 inches, and are beautifully bound in blue pebbled cloth. Edited by Paul F. Mottelay and T. Campbell Copeland. Published by the Stanley Bradley Publishing Co., New York. About 900 pages, with wonderfully marbled page blocks and bright gilt titles. Illustrated with hundreds of elaborate engravings. Because these books are so heavy, over 7 pounds each, I doubt many have survived in collectable condition. Easily the most lavish set published on the Civil War. Unsigned copies online at 850.

Condition: Very good condition for age. Volume 1 shows mild to moderate cover wear, particularly at corners. Binding showing early signs of separation. Page 104-105 separated from the binding. Volume 2 shows blanching on top right corner. Mi
