English Pewter Pint Mug with Crown & VR Marks Made Between 1879-1902
English pewter made after 1877 was often marked with an excise mark consisting of a crown over the initials of the ruling monarch and a code number.From roughly 1879 onwards a uniform style was adopted consisting of a crown, the monarch’s initials (ie. VR, ER or GR) and a number which signifies the location. Victoria was Queen 1837-1901 so the cup is from between 1879-1902.
