First edition, third printing hardcover copy of The Silent Spring by Rachel Carson (Houghton Mifflin, 1962). Very scarce early printing of this iconic work of environmental writing. By the author of Under the Sea Wind, The Sea Around Us and many other. Price clipped jacket is now protected in new archival sleeve, but previously suffered rubbing/scratches to jacket faces, some faint staining and moderate wear around the edges - including tears, chipping, creases and some small missing bits. Boards are straight and clean but with corners bumped. Binding remains fairly firm and hinges are secure. All pages are clean and unmarked other than small, faint bit of staining to outer fore edge of text block. See photos for condition.
