Lipari obsidian is a black volcanic glass that comes from the Aeolian island of Lipari in Italy's volcanic region. It's also known as Cosmic Obsidian and is sometimes faceted and contains white and cream-colored crystal inclusions.
Lipari obsidian was formed volcanically during the Late Mesolithic period and again in the 1st millennium AD. It was used throughout prehistory as a raw material for stone tools, in social relations, and in funerary rituals.
