**[Terashima Shimei]**
Born in Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture in 1892. His real name was Terashima Tokushige. He moved to Tokyo in 1910 to pursue literature. In 1913, he was introduced to Kaburaki Kiyokata by Nagano Soushu and became his student. The following year, he made his debut at the 14th exhibition of the Tatsumi Painting Society and won third prize. In 1927, he made his debut at the 8th Teiten exhibition and continued to exhibit at official exhibitions. In 1931, he moved to Kotoen, Nishinomiya City, and made it his base of operations. In 1941, he won the Special Prize at the 4th Shinbun Exhibition and the Special Prize at the 5th Exhibition the following year. In 1958, he became a council member of the Nitten. In 1961, he won the Minister of Education Award at the 4th Shinnitten. In 1970, he received the Japan Art Academy Award. He died in 1975 at the age of 78.
